i talked to my parents again this afternoon. they are still without power and water. they have lots of supplies but their ice has finally melted. they took all their food, etc. to my grandma's house (she has power and water) and showered there. they are headed back to their apartment now and are going to just take it day by day.

i think i was about ten years old the last time we had a major hurricane come through texas. it really is a surreal experience. but now, being so far away and not able to really help them...that's tough. i'm hopeful that houston will get back on its feet quickly and can then help tend to the devastation that's happened in galveston and the surrounding coastal cities.

think good thoughts. and thanks for your prayers.

inspiration monday.

okay, it's not like it's a regular thing but i couldn't come up with a smarty pants title.

this might not surprise anyone who has ever checked out my bloglines, but i am a huge fan of illustration and animation. stylized illustration is my favorite (i adore mary blair). i totally dig lots of different styles and childrens picture books are a big hit in my house...even before i had a kid, i was buying them up. the beautiful colors and shapes that can be found in so many of them make me happy.

today, the new bob staake is out. it's called "the donut chef" and it's seriously adorable. check this out:

the winds of change...

i feel them blowing. do you?

i get into these weird phases in my life where i am totally obsessed with something. right now, it's period movies. in the last little while, i've seen emma, becoming jane, dangerous liaisons, marie antoinette, elizabeth I, an ideal husband, the phantom of the opera, sweeney todd and shakespeare in love. on the list are vanity fair, the other boleyn girl, valmont, moulin rouge, little women, sense and sensibility, the king and i, and the affair of the necklace. some of these i'd already seen and some are new to me. they are just so beautiful. the way they speak, dress and decorate is like living in another world. gorgeous! do you have any favorites?




tomorrow is a day for taking photos of a zillion projects and getting them either posted or in the mail or both. whee!
